We are ringing in the New Year with the Netflix Original Series ‘All Hail King Julien’ #StreamTeam

We are new to the whole Madagascar world, but recently my big guy watched it and LOVED it, so much so for days he was singing “I want a pond, I want a song” for days … I am pretty sure those are not the right words has a catchy tune so i’m into it and it makes him laugh.

Next up, All Hail King Julien who is a fan favourite from the Madagascar franchise is ready to make all your little one’s laugh with his new Netflix original series coming to your Netflix box on December 19th (I saw the trailer and it looks so cute).

What better way to kick off the new year than with King Julien and his friends Maurice and Mort. Lucky for my kiddies and his friends, we are hosting a New Years party and now we are set with an All Hail King Julien kit full of streamers, 2015 glasses, party hats and more to help us ring in 2015 and what will be playing the background … you got it … All Hail King Julien to keep them all entertained … we’re pretty excited!

Are your kids Madagascar obsessed? Check out some other great Madagascar titles now available for streaming and are perfect for those snowy, cold days over the holidays.

Fall has Begun at Kidville

Kidville Canada

It’s funny how we wait all year for summer to come and then as soon as summer arrives, us parents immediately have to start planning our kids programs for Fall. Of course we want them to be outside as much as possible to soak in the last little bit of decent weather, but as we all know, one minute it’s Fall and the next, you look outside and there is snow on the ground. Is it just me or is there is no gradual weather change anymore?! Speaking of which, it is officially freezing outside (yes I just used the word freezing to describe mid September, but hey three days ago it was 28 degrees and now it is 8) so time to start moving those playdates and music groups indoors.

Since Kidville opened in Toronto, I was very curious about their classes as I had been to multiple birthday parties there and I loved so many aspects of it, but since I work full time and am not in walking distance it wasn’t possible for me at the time to attend classes.

Mid-summer, I was asked to have some friends attend a class at Kidville called Rockin’ Railroad for review and since I was on maternity leave, I happily accepted and honestly speaking I can not say enough great things about the class and facility. Let me start off by saying that this is not your standard music class where you have a music teacher singing the Alphabet song and Twinkle Twinkle with some little puppets on their fingers.

Kidville Toronto

This music class has a 4 piece children’s band playing fun, upbeat music and they have every tool in the box to keep the little one’s engaged throughout the entire class. Everything from big puppets, books, bubbles, hand instruments and big drums teaching your children tempo, rhythm, word recognition, and sound identification. Truly what more can you ask for in a music class.

Kidville Toronto

After music class, we were all invited into their amazing indoor play-space/gym and all I have to say is WOW! Basically it is a giant padded play room where kids can play in a safe environment. They have a mini zip line and climbing wall for the older children and a lot of large geometric padded shapes for the little one’s to play in/on and explore.

Kidville Toronto

The cleanliness of the facility is amazing; no shoes for both the adults and the kids and there is a ‘must wear socks’ rule which I appreciate (so no bare feet – yuk).

We loved our experience at Kidville and I am absolutely certain you and your little one(s) will as well. Fall session has JUST begun, so make sure to check out all they have to offer because they have great, one of a kind programs that nobody else offers!  Call Kidville at (416) 483-7070 to learn more and to register today

Happy playing

Netflix Helps with Back-to-School #StreamTeam

Netflix Canada

Having an “almost” four year old who for the first time went to day camp all summer and then was going to big boy school for the first time (JK) he was SOOOO confused. When camp ended there was one week in-between the ending and school where I thought bringing out the “Getting Ready for JK booklet” which I bought from his school last year, was a great idea and WRONGGG! Huge strike out!! He had zero interest in it and just coloured the pages. So what did I turn to, trusty Netflix and their recommended back-to-school educational shows like Animal ABC’s and Super Why (his fave show) just to get him back into the groove and he was shouting answers out and repeating which was a good start.

One of my biggest fears about big boy school is bullying (him being a bully or him being bullied) and my husband decided to put on Karate Kid  (thanks Netflix for the suggestion) to show him that it’s not nice to be mean to other kids and since there was a little boy learning Karate, he really liked the movie.

For the month of September, there are other great back-to-school shows that are great for little one’s and big one’s like Glee (one of my absolute favourite shows) helping to build kids self esteem and social skills. Here are lists of titles that you should all check out in back-to-school spirit.

Titles for Big Kids

Netflix Back-to-School Titles

1. Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax
2. Ever After: A Cinderella Story
3. Glee
4. Radio
5. The Pursuit of Happyness
6. The Karate Kid
7. Turbo
8. Shrek

Titles for the Little One’s

Netflix Back-to-School Titles

4. Super Why!
5. My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic

7. Animal ABC’s
8. LeapFrog: Numbers Ahoy

If you are looking for a great Back-to-School activity, check out how to make your own adorable pencil/pen holder thanks to Sweet Potato Chronicles.

I hope everyone’s kids had a successful first week of school

Proudly Canadian #StreamTeam #Netflix

NetflixI love when I travel (insert “used to” into that sentence) seeing backpacks with a Canadian flag sewn onto it or people  wearing Roots gear showing how proud they are to be Canadian. It could even be something as small as bringing our American friends Ketchup chips and Smarties to show our pride.

This month Netflix is celebrating us Canadians and letting you discover more about our beautiful country by adding titles that are filmed in Canada, take place in Canada or were created in Canada. Did you know that Super Why is produced by a Canadian company? I sure didn’t and this is by far one of the best children’s shows on TV. My older guy loves to watch TV and this is one of those shows that I don’t mind him watching as I think they have assisted with his learning to read and getting to know the alphabet and the letter sounds (thank you Alpha Pig). I think the show is so great, I downloaded the app which is also amazing for pre-school kids.

Make sure to check out some of these great shows!
Big Kids Netflix Canadian Titles 1. Are you Afraid of the Dark?
2. Johnny Test
3. Black Hole High
4. Alpha and Omega
5. Goosebumps
6. Erky Perky
7. Eliot Kid
8. Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days

Little One’s Netflix Canadian Titles1. Caillou
2. Franny’s Feet
3. The Busy World of Richard Scarry
4. Super Why!
5. Animal Mechanicals
6. Monster Math Squad
7. Team Umizoomi
8. Thomas and the Magical Railroad

While you and your little one(s) are picking a title or two to watch, make a great Canadian snack of Maple Leaf Maple cookies (what can be more Canadian than that) and if your kids like to do arts and crafts, try this neat hand print craft

Happy watching, making and baking

It’s My Time Now #StreamTeam #Netflix

I love my kids very much and wouldn’t trade my days with them for anything in the world, but by the end of the day all I want to do is sit on the couch with my feet up, diet pepsi in hand (some might choose a glass of vino) with a bowl of popcorn beside me (who am I kidding, a BAG of popcorn) and turn on Netflix to immerse myself in one of my many favourite TV series. I can’t even think of the last time my husband and I watched regular cable TV!

Recently, my Netflix world ended when I watched the series finale of Gossip Girl and depression took over me (for those who have watched gossip girl, I am sure you understand). Luckily a day later, the second season of Orange is the New Black was released and now my nights are fully consumed with Piper and and my favourite, Crazy Eyes though the way I am going that will be over sooner than later. I think of myself as a resourceful person, so I polled my friends and have already come up with my next series to consume my time … Friday Night Lights. This mama needs her solo time shows to watch and escape from the messy house while the hubby is out and kiddies are sleeping.

Looking for something to watch during those rare quiet mommy moments?

Netflix Titles1. Orange is the New Black
2. Suits
3. Pretty Little Liars
4. Sherlock
5. Breaking Bad (finished this a few months ago – HIGHLY recommend)
6. Friday Night Lights

Here are some sleeper hits you might have missed?

Netflix Sleeper Hits1. Weeds
2. Call the Midwife
3. Freaks and Geeks
4. Shameless
5. Lilyhammer
6. Wallander

So sit back, relax, make yourself an Orange is the New Black cocktail and turn on a new Netflix series and enjoy the YOU time!

Happy watching

The Imagination Movers are Coming to a Canadian City Near You!

Imagination Movers Concert

Ahhh the memories of watching the Imagination Movers at 6:00am daily (obviously we had many episodes PVR’d) for months on end because that was the only show on TV that actually made my little guy lie in bed with my husband and I until it was a reasonable hour (that is in my books) to get up out of bed. So really I owe the Imagination Movers and Disney Junior a HUGE thank you.

Fast forward three years and I am one of the lucky bloggers that was invited to see a pre-concert of Disney Junior’s Imagination Movers with my big guy and obviously my response was YES!!!!! Not only did my son have the BEST time, so did I!! Might I add they are the absolute nicest guys.

Imagination Movers Pre-Concert

First of all, when we saw them practicing, I would be lying if I didn’t say I was completely star struck … come on … for so many months I woke up to them, wouldn’t you be? Secondly, when I was introducing my big guy to them it all came back to me and knew their names (Rich goes rat-a-tat-tat, Smitty plays guitar, Scott who’s goggles that help see far, Dave is underneath the red hat) and best yet I was singing along to their theme song because obviously I knew it off by heart, I just didn’t realize I would remember it years later (I have to say I was quite impressed with my memory).

Imagination Movers Pre-Concert

That’s my big guy FASCINATED by the Imagination Movers

There is great news for all the Imagination Movers fans out there (even if you are not a fan, if you take your child they will walk out a fan .. and so will you), they (along with Warehouse Mouse) are touring Canada (16 cities) starting September 13th going through British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Halifax, Ontario and Manitoba. Tickets are now on sale!!! I have to say they put on a great show that your kids will love.

Must See Movie Alert #Blended

Blended Movie

It’s not often I get to see movies these days, but I still know a good movie when I see one and Warner Bros. movie Blended is one of those that should go on your “must see” list.

I try not to describe movies as “cute” as it is one of those words that the moment I even utter the word “cute” to describe a movie to my husband, the next word out of his mouth is straight up NO, but I can’t think of any other word that best describes this movie, because it was just so damn cute! You will find yourself laughing out loud as some of the characters are hilarious and if you have kids you will relate to many parts of the movie! It was one of those feel good movies that leaves you with a big smile on your face.

There are some on screen couples that work so well together that you wonder why they aren’t together in real life and Drew Barrymore and Adam Sandler are just one of those couples (I have always been a fan of their movies together).

After being set on a disastrous blind date, Lauren (played by Drew Barrymore) and Jim (played by Adam Sandler) agree on one thing, that they never want to see each other again. But when they each sign up separately for a fabulous family vacation with their kids, they are all stuck sharing a suite at a fabulous African safari resort for a week

So grab your girlfriends or bribe your husband and go to see it.
Enjoy (and treat yourself to a big bag of popcorn)
