I just Learned that it is Potty Training Awareness Month #PottyPartnership #Giveaway

Pull-Ups Potty Training

I just found out that June is Potty Training Awareness Month so what better time is there to start learning about potty training and get ready to start the process (now that I think about it the word “process” is actually a very suiting word here because potty training really is a process and a very frustrating one at that).

I got lucky with my youngest and potty training because he idolizes his brother and therefore wants to copy everything he does (and I mean everything), so he had a natural curiosity about the toilet just seeing his brother going all the time. No joke, sometimes my little guy would follow his brother to the bathroom and just sit on the step stool while his brother was doing his business and the two of them would chat about who know’s what as if they were sitting on the couch together (it was probably one of the cuter things I have experienced with the two boys).

Instead of telling you how I did it because Pull-Ups has an AMAZING online resource that will really assist with getting to know your child and providing a guide to help, I am going to let you know a few things NOT to do which were little mistakes I made (oops):

1. DO NOT RUSH POTTY TRAINING!!! It will become stressful for you and most importantly, scratch that .. equally as important, it will be stressful for your little one (mistake number 1 that I made)

2. Don’t get angry when you see their pants go from light grey to dark grey: as frustrating as potty training is, they are still babies and it’s not an easy thing to learn that feeling of having to pee (I am guessing because clearly I can’t remember this stage in my life). I promise getting angry at your little one will only backfire and cause my issues for you

3. Remember .. SMALL REWARDS: who thought it was a good idea to reward their child with a toy every time they peed or pooped in the potty (you can’t see me but I am guessing you know that my hand is up). Rewards I feel are important, but keep them small and something they do not get all the time so it actually feels like a reward (smarties were a big hit in my house) and the final touches was a big Mickey Mouse Stuffie thanks to Pull-Ups. If you don’t want to do a reward every time your little one goes to the washroom, make a sticker chart and at the end of the week give them a little reward.

4. Get a cute potty that actually peeks their interest: I got your run of the mill hole in a bucket type potty and though it looked nicer with my furniture because let’s be honest it does become a piece of furniture for a little while, it didn’t help peek his interest. There are really cute, stand alone potty’s out there that have their own little flusher which makes the whole experience more fun

Pull-Ups Potty Training

Not my little guy, but a friends who is just starting potty training

It’s definitely a scary world out there (I am talking about the potty training world), but with Pull-Ups new Potty Partnership, they offer a whole new way to potty train and it really does help!!! All you do is take a short quiz to find out what your child’s potty personality is and then it is almost like a personal guide for you as to how to go about potty training based on their personality (this is my son’s and was pretty much on point).

Get it Done in a Jiffy! #GIVEAWAY

Jiffy on Demand

So you move into your new house and the air conditioner breaks; one evening you hear a weird noise coming from the basement and realize thats your washing machine yelling at you; your child throws up blueberries all over your new carpet, you have a million little things all over the house that need repairing, you wake up one morning and find tons of ants in the house … WHO ON EARTH DO YOU CALL for all of these things? The old me would pick up the phone and immediately call my mother panicking (sounds familiar right), the new me picks up my phone and logs onto my Jiffy app.

If your asking yourself what the Jiffy app is then the first step is just downloading … why? Just trust me here! No money spent on just downloading the app. Now create a profile and you can scroll through all the different services they have to offer and boy do they have almost every service available.

Now I wasn’t approached by Jiffy to test the app, I just heard about it and decided to check it out for myself assuming one day I would test it out, but as luck would have it the following week my shower needed a visit from a plumber. I logged in to my Jiffy account, clicked on plumber and a few minutes later I got an email advising me that my plumbing job was accepted, they told me the name and the company of the plumber coming, his phone number and email and even included the time window at which he would be at my house (only a 1 hour window – when does that happen). No joke, 15 minutes later I got a call from the plumber saying that he was on his way and would be at my house in 5 minutes. The job was done, he left and I got an email receipt with the breakdown of the fee’s and a summery of what was done. Piece of cake!

Jiffy on Demand

What I love about Jiffy

Celebrating the Holidays with Netflix – Enter to WIN!!! #NetfliXmas #StreamTeam

December is one of my favourite months of the year: Hanukkah, Christmas, Christmas Music (my absolute favourite), lights on neighbourhood houses and trees, Christmas movies and the smell of baking in friends houses. To be quite honest, the only smell of baked goods in my house is the purchased kind or even the pre-made cookie dough kind. I have seen so many amazing cookie recipes via #streamteam bloggers, however my best recipe is going to the grocery store and picking up those pre-made cookie dough rolls, roll them into balls and put them on the cookie sheet for 10-15 minutes creating the perfect, delicious cookies for all my family members to enjoy for their late afternoon movie chill. Netflix has an amazing lineup for the month of December!

December Netflix

1. Casper’s Haunted Christmas

2. Cat in the Hat knows a lot about Christmas

3. Curious George: A Very Monkey Christmas

4. Dreamworks Happy Holidays from Madagascar

5. My Little Pony: A very Minty Christmas

6. Pee-Wee’s Playhouse: Christmas Special

7. The Search for Santa Paws

8. The Swan Princess Christmas

9. Thomas & Friends: Merry Christmas Thomas

Stylin’ Your Kids with Heart N’ Soul – A Children’s Swag Boutique … Enter to Win!

Heart and Soul Kids

Full disclosure, I have a slight shopping problem (it could be worse right?!) 5 years ago it was all about buying for myself … how quickly things changed once I had kids. My love for clothes shopping took a huge turn and I found that during my “quiet” time (aka my kids nap time) I was on the computer scouting out new children’s clothing stores for my little one(s).

I take a lot of pride in my kids wardrobe (don’t judge me) and I really do take it as a compliment when someone tells me they love my kids clothes … it’s the little things in life. It was months ago that I saw some teasers on Facebook for a new online store called Heart N’ Soul Kids and was immediately intrigued (advertising at it’s best). Anxiously waiting, they launched their website a few months later and I instantly fell in love with the clothes. Best part: they are a local Toronto online shop so no duties and brokerage coming over the border.

November’s Guide to a Good Laugh with Netflix #StreamTeam

Technically, it’s not even winter yet (at least not for another few weeks) and my household has already gone through the flu (yes my ENTIRE household) and multiple colds (after 2 back-to-back colds, I stopped counting), looks like it is going to be a looong winter. The two best things to cure the common cold for adults or kids .. homemade chicken soup and a cuddling up on the couch in a big fuzzy blanket watching a comedy. Nothing like a good laugh to make you feel better 🙂 Our household heavily relies on Gru and his adorable minions antics to give us a good chuckle.

To perk up your little one when they are feeling down, here are some other great titles to check out

The Last Drop of Summer #Netflix #StreamTeam

How it is already the first week of August is beyond me?!!! With all this cold weather the last few weeks, I feel like we skipped right over  Summer and went straight to Fall (tear sniff). So, while the weather is cooperating and there are only a few weeks left until September, now is the time to get inspired and squeeze out the last little drop of summer that is left. This month, Netflix has titles which will help inspire you to get out and cross off the last few things on your “to do” summer list.

Big Kid

Big Kid Netflix Titles1. The Adventures of Tintin
2. Journey 2: The Mysterious Island
3. Tad: The Lost Explorer
4. The Adventures of Mickey Matson and the Copperhead Treasure
5. National Treasure
6. Labou and the Quest for the Lost Treasure

Little Kid

Little Kid Netflix Titles

1. Dora the Explorer
2. Wild Animal Baby Explorers
3. Tree Fu Tom
4. Rubbadubbers: Tubb’s Pirate Treasure
5. A Turtle’s Tale: Sammy’s Adventures
6. The Hive

Dora the Explorer is always a staple in our house. It is a great, educational show where she has your little one come along on her outdoor adventures and encourages participation by repeating her Spanish words, asking questions and giving the little one’s a few seconds to answer and best of all, has the kids moving around.

Sticking with the Dora the Explorer theme, here’s a great craft that will be a lot of fun for the little explorers with big imaginations out there

Enjoy the last drop of summer and try to make the most of it!!!

The Battle of the Bang

The Beauty Supply Outlet

I recently made a HUGE decision … to cut bangs! That may not seem like a big decision, but for someone who has had the same hair cut for the last 10 years … big decision! I walked away loving my new do until I showered and tried to do the bangs myself and it was an EPIC failure. My bangs looked like tree’s … straight and stiff.

I had two problems to work with: one being that I had to find the time every other day to blow dry my hair straight since I have naturally wavy hair which I really don’t see wavy working with well with the bangs and two, figuring out the right products to make these bangs look normal.

I went to The Beauty Supply Outlet which was the only place I knew would have a selection of the products I would need to maintain these puppies and walked out with a bag full of brushes, a new flat iron (that was on sale woot woot) and combs to try out and … I still could not perfect the beauty of the bang though they were soooo much better than before. Talk about a complete coincidence, a month later I was offered a chance to go to The Beauty Supply Outlet (at Yonge and Eglinton) to help with my beauty routine and I happily accepted since my last visit I went in for the sole purpose to buy brushes and didn’t even look around or see what they would recommend (my bad).

The Beauty Supply Outlet

The Yonge and Eglinton Store

First off let me say that I actually took the time to walk around the store and was so shocked because they had the specialty shampoo and conditioner that I normally order through my regular salon and takes over a week to get, and best of all is that it was so much cheaper at The Beauty Supply Outlet (don’t I feel dumb) not to mention a lot of the other high end brands (Joico, Paul Mitchelle etc). Secondly, they were so extremely helpful with taking the time to walk me around show me products that would help me tame these suckers. I hate to say it, but all those brushes I bought previously were all wrong (oops by bad), so this visit I walked away with a new ceramic brush in the right size and a salon quality blow dryer which I have to say, both made a WORLD of difference. She even convinced me to not always straighten my hair and leave it natural (and only blow dry my bangs – I will let you know how that goes).

The Beauty Supply Outlet

My purchases

I am always looking for great deals, especially when I am constantly buying products for my hair and The Beauty Supply Outlet really does have them. Not only was my shampoo and conditioner cheaper, I saw the product I use for my wavy hair, two for $30.00 when I have been previously buying them for $20 each. Oh, did I mention that I bought my new flat iron on sale and my blow dryer (those are the big ticket items that you want to get a deal on).

I do very much appreciate when staff members take the time to listen to their customers problems (whatever those may be, in my case battling the bang) and provide you with solutions and that is exactly what this staff member at The Beauty Supply Outlet did and for that I am grateful.

I’m also excited about the weekly Red Hot Deals available on the website – check out this month’s deals here

So there you have it, a little dose of my daily hair drama.
If you have bangs, PLEASE share with me your secret on the upkeep

Netflix Does #TBT – #StreamTeam

Who doesn’t love a good #TBT (throw back Thursday) pic especially when it involves large shoulder pads, big hair half pulled to the side by bobbles or hot loops, giant eye brows or best yet the tight waisted jeans with a crop top (HOT!), but some of my favourite throw back memories are those TV shows that I spent countless hours watching like Jem and the Hollagrams (she was truly outrageous), eating dinner ever so quickly in order to catch the opening song to Bev Hills 90210 and I can’t forget my afternoons post school watching Saved by the Bell (B. B. B. B. B. go Bayside) and now you can pretty much guess my age 😉

For the month of May, Netflix is having their own #TBT where they have a slew of our old time favourites listed and I couldn’t be happier. Here are some great titles for you to watch with your kids and rehash memories of your own:

For the older kids

Netflix #TBT 1. The Mighty Ducks
2. Ghostbusters
3. Heathcliff
4. Honey I Shrunk the Kids (one of my old time faves)
5. The Secret of Nimh
6. He-Man and the Masters of the Universe
7. Spider-Man (my older guy watches this one daily while my husband rehashes his memories of watching this show early mornings when he was a kid)
8. The Facts of Life
9. The Smurfs (this is my bigger guys fave quiet time show and he knows all the lines off by heart)
10. Diff’rent Strokes

For the Younger Kids

Netflix #TBT

1. My Little Pony: The Runaway Rainbow
2. Sesame Street: Classics
3. The Busy World of Richard Scarry
4. The Care Bears Movie II: A New Generation (my nickname is Bear, I am sure you can figure out why)
5. Curious George
6. Clifford the Big Red Dog

While you are watching your old time favourite, why not take a page from the books (remember all the Bill Cosby J-E-L-L-O commercials) and make some Pudding Pops or you can settle for some good ol’ Mac & Cheese with ketchup

Happy Times
