The Must-Have Toys for the Holidays – List 3 #GIVEAWAY

The Must-Have Toys for the Holidays

Are you ready to see what the must-have toys of the season are? We (yes “we” does include me) had a lot of fun testing out the newest toys for the Holidays and I am excited to finally let you know what they are. Brace yourself there are A LOT that we loved and want to share! All these toys were sent to me for review and I have hand picked our favorites.

NHL AirPuck (3+)
This is going to be a HUUUUUGE hit this season!!!!
The amount of marks and dents I have on my wall in the basement from hockey pucks/balls hitting it is my new kind of normal. My big guy started playing hockey 5 or 6 years ago and used to practice shots in the basement with my husband. It wasn’t until a puck ALMOST hit my little guy in the head that I stopped it. There is a solution!!!! The brand new NHL AirPucks have protective foam padding around it so it won’t damage walls. Turn it on and it lights up and hovers over smooth surfaces. This actually makes playing hockey fun for my 5 year old.
Side Note: it does not come with batteries so make sure you have it accessible (4 x AA)

Where to Buy: Party Rock $25

MGA Entertainment’s Ready2Robot Battle Pack (4+)
A gift within a gift within a gift within a gift!!! Just when you think you got your toy, there is a blind box that the kids unwrap (parents get the scissors out for this one) and it reveals different parts of the second battle robot which the little one’s assemble (don’t worry, it’s easy to put together). What really made my little guy laugh was that he had to stick his fingers into a little container of gooey slime to get the little character that goes onto the top of the robot! If you want a stocking stuffer or to collect more, you can buy the blind boxes separate.
Note: Make sure to open all three areas of the chamber to get all robot parts.

Where to Buy: Indigo $30

MGA Entertainment’s Crate Creature Flingers (4+)
Brake the crate to let your creature free! We can’t seem to get enough of these little guys (i’m a sucker for a not-so-scary monster). Not only are they cute, but you pull their tongue and they say funny things and best of all (what gets the kids laughing), they belch. For the parents (like myself) that dislike toys that just randomly talk when they aren’t being touched, this is not one of them and there is an off button on the back. These are great as a stocking stuffer or as a smaller gift (he is about the size of my hand)
Note: they come in larger furry creatures

Where to Buy: Indigo, Amazon $15.99

Flushin Frenzy – Pop the Poop by Mattel (5+)
Talk about getting a laugh, this game is a MUST have for the Holidays!!!! I mean, what child wouldn’t love a game with a flying poop. Yup, you heard me: roll the dice and plunge the toilet as many times as the dice shows to unleash the flying poop. The first person to grab it or catch it in the air gets a coin. The first person to get the most coins wins (it’s just that easy).

Where to Buy: Amazon.ca, Indigo, Toys R Us $17.50

Hydro Strike by Pressman Toys (7+)
So first off this game totally reminds me the old school pinball games but mini version. My big guy really liked this one and that says a lot since he doesn’t really play games anymore with me 🙁 Fill the two little containers on the side with water, drop a ball down ramp and try to keep it out of your zone. If the ball gets through your zone, the game will squirt you. Not to worry parents who don’t like a mess, it’s just a little squirt but since they are little it gets them bang on (hence why he took his shirt off) LOL.

Where to Buy: Amazon.com $38.50 (includes import fees)

Grossery Gang Bug Strike (5+)
Back 5 years ago, my older son was introduced to Grossery Gangs by his cousin. My mini has since taken over his collection and we have a bin … yes a BIN full of Grossery Gangs. The newest line is called Grossery Gang Bug Strike and they are little rubbery creatures that kids can collect. The best way to describe these is that they are the boy version of Shopkins. The best part is that they come in little toilets which you add water to (before you open it) and when the kids break the seal (no pun intended) it is filled with a yellow bubbly substance with the figures inside (you dump it out after – it’s just for giggles).
They come in smaller toilet packs (great for stocking stuffers) and larger packs (great for the bigger presents), as well as a lot of garbage trucks and motor bikes the kids use the little figures with.

Where to Buy: Toys R Us, Price ranges from $3.99 – $24.99 for the packs

Flik Flak Watch
A few years ago, my big guy was learning to tell the time so I thought it was the perfect opportunity to buy him a watch. First stop, the Swatch booth at Yorkdale (their kids line is called Flik Flak)! We were offered a chance to check out Flik Flak’s new line of watches and my mini was so excited because he was finally getting a watch. They both have not taken them off since. This year they are offering really great patterned and textured bands great for their little audiences and their older audiences.

Where to Buy: Amazon Swatch $80-$95

DC Super Friends HeroDrive Batman Racer by Funrise (3+)
Calling all Superhero fans! Little one’s are going to love these racers, with lights and sounds they are sure to please those curious little minds. I thought they might be too young for my mini but he has been playing with them using his little superhero figures that we have.  There are a lot of options in this new line: the Signal Squad cars have a signal light that illuminates on walls and retail for $12.99, from the Mash Machines which make sounds and have flashing lights retail for $9.99 and lastly the ultimate Batman Racer has lights, engine sounds and music  which retails for $29.99. The added bonus, all come with batteries!!!

Where to Buy: Toys R Us and Home Hardware

Professor Maxwell’s 4D Chef’s Kit
This is neat!!! Now that it’s getting colder out, parents are always looking for indoor things to do with their kids and this is a great activity! Cooking brought to life. Download the app onto your phone, insert your phone into the virtual reality glasses then look at one of the recipes and Professor Maxwell comes to life introducing your child to the recipe and he even explains the science behind the food. Look at all the steps and it activates “how to” videos. Note: this product DOES NOT come with the food, but it does come with all the utensils (measuring cups, cutting board, spatula, measuring spoons, apron, hat and much more!
Side Note: the VR glasses were too heavy for my mini to wear so he lost interest

Where to Buy: Scholar’s Choice Best Buy $40 (other options available: Science and Chemistry Kits)

Crazy Aaron’s Thinking Putty (8+)
Remember the days when putty was only a beige colour and came in an egg and we thought it was the coolest thing ever? Crazy Aaron’s Thinking Putty has completely changed putty and it can’t get any cooler. You name it, they have it. Everything from: sparkly putty, magnetic putty, hypercolour putty, unicorn putty, glow-in-the-dark putty, scented putty to name a few. When my kids saw these, they begged me to open them. One was the Strange Attractor Putty which is magnetic (which they were fascinated with) and Super Fly Putty which is an illusion putty. What they were even MORE excited about was the Mixed by Me Thinking Putty Kit which they create their own heat sensitive putties and even make their own tin labels. This one makes for a great rainy day activity – my new go-to birthday gift! I love that it’s non-toxic and made in the USA.
Side Note: the tin can be hard to open, I had to use a fork to separate the tin (part of the putty was under the lid which is why it was sealed as tight as it was)

Where to Buy: Amazon $32 and Scholars Choice $30

Tic Tac Tongue by Yulu (4+)
This is a very easy game that the whole family can play. Put the tongue through the frogger face mask, attach the mouth cap to it (easier to clean), insert the number images into the little stands, put them randomly in a row and begin the game. The object of the game is to get the most cards in your colour by choosing the correct number shown and knocking it down with your frogger tongue. This game is perfect for the little one’s who are learning to recognize numbers, plus they loved blowing out the tongue!
Side note: the kids loved the face mask but I had a really hard time with having my face covered

Where to Buy: Amazon $17.99 or Indigo $20

LeapFrog LeapStart Learning System
This is fabulous learning tool that is actually a fun way for kids to learn! My recommendation: purchase some books right off the bat. First you are going to need to charge your LeapStart Book then download the audio for the books you have purchased by going to the leapfrog web page. If you want to know which books are suitable for your kids, you can go online and see what they offer by grade. Once that is all done, your little one takes the pen that is included with the LeapStart and tap on all different points of the book and it will read/say what you have touched. There are different icons at the bottom of some of the pages, those will guide you to different activities/challenges/problem solving etc that your mini can do throughout the book. Up next for us, the beginner learn-to-read series! Big fan.

Where to Buy: Amazon $50 and Mastermind Toys $60, Books range in price from $10-$25

HexBug Ring Racer (8+)
I feel like this is the kind of product I would walk right by at a toy store (probably because it’s small), but now that we have tested it out, that would have been a mistake! Out of allllll the toys we have gotten to test, this is the only one that caused a fight because they both were fighting over who got to play with it. So first, let me recommend BUY TWO if you have two kids. They can battle it out together and create their own unique stunts (my kids had it fly down the stairs)! The HexBug Ring Racer tumbles, spins and flips over 360 degrees using the little controller. There are two speed settings: regular and fast mode. Best of all, the batteries are rechargeable so no need to go through a ton of batteries. Just make sure to charge it before you give it to them (it comes with a cord and charges pretty quickly).

Where to Buy: Mastermind Toys $30 or Amazon $32

HexBug Ring Racer

——————————————————————–

There are two more toys that I wanted to show you as I thought they would be great for the Holidays, however I did not test them so I can not review them, BUT I am going to purchase them for my kids if that helps 🙂

A. Crate Creatures: I have the Crate Creature Flingers which made my list but this is the larger version that is plush and makes tons of hilarious noises that kids just love! Plus you have to break them out their crate which is always fun for kids
B. Kerplunk Game: A game that would be great for both of my kids to play. Carefully pull out the sticks but don’t pull the the wrong one otherwise all the balls will fall.

Hasbro’s Hottest Toys for the Holidays #GIVEAWAY #FortniteMonopoly

The Must-Have Toys for the Holidays

Hasbro always has the best toys and I have tested and reviewed some of our favorites for the Holidays. So here we go:

Nerf Modulus Ghost Ops Evader 8+
Alright friends, this Nerf gun is the Nerf guns of all Nerf guns (well that I have seen)! I am sure there are many of you that don’t want to allow a Nerf gun in the house because A. you worry about the fact that “they are playing with guns” and B. you worry about someone getting hurt. I had this same thing but I have to tell you, it got my kids off their devices and actually running around the house playing games with it. I had one rule: WAIST DOWN and they happily abide by it because they know I will just take them away. This puppy has a motorized blaster that shoots out one dart right after the other (fits 12 darts). The blaster illuminates so they can play in dark(ish) rooms. You can even buy extra parts for it with the entire Modulus system.

Where to Buy: Walmart Amazon $40

Nerf Modulus Ghost Ops Blaster

——————————————————–

Nerf Laser Ops Pro – AlphaPoint
Ok, so you want a Nerf gun but you hate the idea of darts shooting out and possibly hitting you or your little guy in the face … am I right? The solution is right here! The new Nerf Laser Ops Pro uses lasers instead of darts. My kids (husband included) ran around the house hiding in places trying not to get shot. Once you get “hit” a sound will go off noting that you have been hit. There is a back display noting your health and how much ammo you have left and has an easy reload button to get them quickly back in the game. This one is a no brainer! Bonus: no darts to clean up. It’s a win win.

Where to Buy: Toys R Us Amazon $50

Play-Doh Poop Troop Playset (3+)

It seems there is a common theme with this years hottest toys, poop!!! I am actually shocked that wasn’t my mini’s first words because he certainly likes to talk about poo and makes (the worst) poo jokes and sure enough he belly laughs every time he says the word so obviously he would love the new Play-Doh Poop Troop Playset. It comes with 12 jars of Play-Doh in all colours so kids can make their very own poo emojis. Complete with eyes, ears, arms and toppers, have your kids come up with their own creative poop emojis.

Where to Buy: Amazon $35

Play-Doh Poop Troop Set

————————————————————–

Yellies (5+)
This is one spider that we are not scared of! The louder your mini yells, the faster these guys go. Don’t worry, it’s not only just yelling they respond to: talk, sing, clap or play music and the Yellies will move and watch their eyes light up. These guys make a great stocking stuffer. Collect all the critters and have your little guys run around your house chasing after them.

Where to Buy: Amazon Toys R Us $20

Yellies

————————————————————–

Connect 4 Shots (8+)

Winner winner!!! The game is Connect 4 meets Cup Pong where you have to bounce the ball and get it into a cup but instead of a cup you have to get it into the row you want. It seems easy, but those balls don’t always go where you want them to and you end up helping out your rival (clearly that’s what happened when we played). Easy to put together and easy storage as it folds flat.

Where to Buy: Amazon Toys R Us $20

Fortnite Monopoly (13+)
Need I say more … SOLD!!!! Those who know, know! My big guys went CRAZY over this.

Where to Buy: Walmart Amazon $25

What’s a Stikbot? #FamilyGaming #Giveaway

Stikbots

What’s a Stikbot you ask? I certainly had the same question and to be quite honest, I was worried I wasn’t going to be overly impressed with this toy.

I’ve seen Stikbots around toy stores, but I just assumed they were a toy kids can stick on smooth surfaces and that’s about it (meh right). I was completely wrong in my assumption as there is a whole other part to these movable figurines. The new Stikbot Studio Pro has arrived and kids can take their imagination and creativity to a whole new level.

Stikbot Pro

Here’s how it works:
First, download the Zing Stikbot Studio app onto your phone (I was hoping you could use your tablet but if you want to use the tri-pod they provide you this is not an option as it only fits a phone). After spending some time clicking on the app buttons trying to get familiar with what you can do within the app, set up the green or blue stage (very easy to do – insert slits are pretty visible) that is provided. What’s the difference between the blue and green stage: if you have a green figure, you will not be able to see it on the green screen so flip it around and use the blue stage)

Stikbot Pro

Set your phone up on the tri-pod in front of the stage, open the app and either find a pre-loaded scene your little one wants to use to create their animated video or use of your own pictures as the back drop. Have your little one set up their Stikbots on the stage (they have suction cups on their hands and feet) using the added prop box (creating a 3-D effect) and take still photo’s. Once the photo’s have all been uploaded, the app will stitch them together into a film with built-in music and sound effect options. My kids had a blast once we figured it all out!

Stikbot Pro

New, born into the Stikbot family are the Stikbot Pets! Dogs, cats, cow, horse, gorilla, bear and monkeys will help add some extra fun to your kids videos!

Stikbot Pets

Where to Buy: Toys R Us and Walmart
Stikbot Studio Pro: $25.00
Stikbot Pets: $5.99

Thank you to our friends at Zing they are giving away a Stikbot Studio Pro (comes with two Stikbots) to 1 lucky reader! The contest is open to US and Canadian residents. Here’s how to enter:

Fun Family Games with Yulu #Giveaway

Yulu Games

Is it just me or is the “family gaming” aisle in toy stores extremely overwhelming?! Jam packed with hundreds of different games, I literally pace back and forth looking at all the titles and then most the time I walk away empty handed and frustrated because I just can’t seem make a decision.

At one point I brought my 6 year old to the store to have him pick a game (I thought maybe it would be easier for him to choose) … BIG MISTAKE! He picked out a game he saw on one of the YouTube channels and after I couldn’t get it to work, I instantly regretted my decision (and the money I spent on it). You live and learn!

If you are like me and are overwhelmed in that aisle and just looking for a recommendation for some rainy day games, after-camp games, quiet time games or witching hour games, I have two fun one’s that my kids had a blast playing!

Safe Breaker
Safe Breaker Game
Object of the Game:  to break open the safe by cracking the code and breaking into the safe to collect the coins. Win by being the first to collect 5 coins or 3 diamond coins but make sure you don’t get caught by the police.

How to Playlay out all the cards with the numbers facing up. Have one person pick the first card, turn the dial to the chosen number, next use the fingerprint scanner to test the number and if the light shows green the safe door will open and if the light shows red listen through the spy listening gear to hear a secret clue as to whether the code is higher or lower than the number chosen (there are sounds which prompt you). When you crack the code, the safe door will open and coins will spit out. Don’t be fooled though, sometimes you could break open the safe and there are no coins inside or you could get the alarm coin and you have to give back all your coins! Keep playing until 5 coins or 3 diamond coins have been collected. Careful though, if you hear a siren that means the police have been alerted and you lose a turn.

Where to Buy: Toys R Us and Mastermind in Canada, Target and Walmart in the USA
Price: $30.00 CAD

Break Free

Object of the Game: be the first to pick the lock on your hand cuffs and break free of them!

How to Play: there are three maze levels to choose from (easy, intermediate and challenging). Put the chosen maze into the handcuff, attach the handcuff to all players wrist. Using the lock pick, players must try to get through the hidden maze by moving the lock left, right, up and down to release the handcuff and escape as quickly as possible. The winner gets a coloured token to match the colour maze they chose. There are points on the back of each token and the player with the most points at the end of the three rounds wins!

Break Free

Where to Buy: Toys R Us and Mastermind in Canada, Target and Walmart in the USA
Price: $25 CAD

Thanks to our wonderful friends at Yulu, they are giving away both games to 1 lucky reader. The contest is open to both Canadian and US residents. Here’s how to enter:

My big guy truly had no idea what to do with them when we opened the package (nor did I to be quite honest) but then we watched the Thumb Chucks video and he was really into trying to figure them out. Hasbro Holiday Must-Haves

Hasbro

I had the opportunity to preview the newest, latest, greatest Hasbro toys coming out in the upcoming months for the holidays (yup, thats right, I said HOLIDAYS) and all I have to say is WOW. I, unfortunately couldn’t bring my older guy to test them out because he was at camp, though I have to be honest, I had a such a fun time testing them out myself 😉

Here is a (LONG) preview of some of the great toys to help get the ball rolling with those lists your kids are making.

Kre-O
All new Transformer: Age of Extinction sets starting with small building sets (DINOBOT CHARGE SET), Medium sets (GRIMLOCK STREET ATTACK SET) and large building sets (GALVATRON FACTORY BATTLE SET). All are very reasonably priced and of course easy to assemble as each has a step-by-step guides which will walk you through building it. What’s unique about these sets and many others is that the main building figures have magnets in them to capture the characters .. NEAT right??!!!

Transformers Kre-O

Nerf
Nerf has really stepped it up by creating a whole new line of elite toys. NERF N-STRIKE MEGA THUNDERBOW  Toy (which was a ton of fun to play with might I add) made top of my list. Pull back and release to send the dart flying up to 100 feet. Comes with 10 darts ($34.99 – Available in August)

Nerf Thunderbow

Next on my list is the NERF N-STRIKE ELITE COMBAT CREATURE TERRADRONE which looks like an enormous bug and is powered by a remote control and works on all terrain. Just aim and fire. Comes with 12 darts ($69.99 – Available in November) – This was very cool!

Hasbro Nerf Terradrone

Lastly is the highest end of all the shooters is the NERF N-STRIKE ELITE NERF CAM ECS-12 BLASTER that has a built-in camera to record your child’s Nerf battle missions.  There is a 1.77″ colour screen for aiming and playback which allows the kids to show their friends for bragging rights 😉 Shoots up to 90 feet and comes with 12 darts. Oh did I mention a 4GB memory card is included which can hold up to 2000 photos. Requires AA batteries NOT INCLUDED ($89.99 – Available in August)

Nerf Elite Cam

Did you know there was a Nerf line for the little ladies’ out there called NERF REBELLE? Playing on the amazing movie, Hunger Games, this is a great line targeted to girls (but of course all can play with it) and has a whole spy aspect to it where you can write with a special pen on the missiles and they can only be read in a special decoder which come with a bunch of the blasters (Available in August)

Nerf Rebelle

Marvel
Just when you think they have thought of it all, Hasbro comes out with a life sized (well for my big guy it is life sized) 31″ SPIDER-MAN FIGURE with articulation having head and body movement ($39.99 – Available in August)

31" Spider-Man

I reviewed the Superhero Mashers a little while back and thought it was such a neat idea (of course my son loved them) and now there is a SUPERHERO MASHERS MASH PACK offered for the holidays. Mash up all the Superhero’s to make your own custom Superhero … their little imaginations run wild! ($29.99 – Available in August)

Marvel Superhero Mash Pack

Transformers
Now I don’t know much about Transformers (though I did play with them when I was a kid thanks to growing up with two older brothers), but the new Transformers action figurines are seriously out of control!!! I was able to try out the TRANSFORMERS: AGE OF EXTINCTION STOMP AND CHOMP GRIMLOCK ACTION FIGURE and this was pretty damn cool. Grimlock turns into Dino-Mode mode with a chomping jaw and light up eyes in one easy step. Included is a (non-converting) Optimus Prime who can ride him and unlocks electronic lights, sounds and pop-out weapons. As well, Grimlock has different lights and sounds depending on who is riding him (figures sold separately) $89.99 – Available in August

Playskool Heroes
I love this line as it is big boy brands for little hands! Where to start? The TRANSFORMERS RESCUE BOTS OPTIMUS PRIMAL FIGURE is pretty cool. Just twist of the torso, and the Autobot hero will convert from bot to Tyrannosaurus Rex! The OPTIMUS PRIMAL figure features over 20 phrases and dino sound effects and will even let out a load ‘roar’ in dino mode and lots of special effects, like the blue Energize Hide activation panel, dino chomping action, and working rescue drill ($44.99 – Available NOW)

Playskool Rescue DinoBots

My son saw a picture of the SUPERHERO ADVENTURES KAPOW ACTION FIGURES and insisted on me getting him these. Activate HULK smashing action by moving his legs, and watch HULK smash with his oversized plush fists! Activate SPIDER-MAN web slinging action by moving his legs back and forth and then pretend to spin webs with his oversized plush fists! Each Superhero has over ten fun phrases and sounds ($24.99 – Available in August)

Superhero Kapow

Playskool
Did I ever love all the new Playskool toys coming out! I am most excited to test out the new ROCK, RIDE ‘N STRIDE HIPPO TOY as my little guy is at the stage where he loves to walk (assisted of course) and he thinks any toys that he can ride on are the funniest things on earth. This is a great transition toy that goes from a walker, to a rocker (you can lock the wheels) and then to a ride-on depending on your child’s stage. As you move, music plays to reward your motor skills – slow down and the music will fade, and move again to bring it back. For even more fun and stimulation, kids can press the 3 buttons on hippo’s dashboard to play with fun music, animal sounds, and silly sounds ($49.99 – Available NOW)

All I can say is I am inlove with the new Elmo’s that are new to the market. My little guy is at the stage where he loves to play peek-a-boo and sure enough there is now a PEEK-A-BOO ELMO where you push his tummy and his arms will move to cover his eyes, release and he will reveal his eyes. That’s not it, he has 15 fun phrases that will make the kids giggle. LOVE LOVE LOVE ($24.99 – Available NOW)

How many times has your little one asked for a pet and how many times have you said no? Need a solution? FurReal Friends is your answer. I saw the GET UP AND GOGO MY WALKING PUP PET in action and I can understand why kids would love this. She sits and speaks on command, walks, wags her tail and even comes when you call her, she has a remote control on her leash. Like real dogs, GOGO reacts when other FurReal friends are near and barks to say hello. There is an app the kids can download to help care for their pet and she will even respond to all the on screen action with movement and happy barks! Within the app, kids can also play fun games, and even meet other virtual FurReal friends pets. Lots of pets to choose from. Batteries not included ($69.99 – Available August)

FurReal Friends Get up and GoGo

My Little Pony
I used to LOVE My Little Pony when I was a kid and now Hasbro has stepped it up and made a “create your own” My Little Pony with the MY LITTLE PONY POP DELUXE STYLE KIT ASSORTMENT. Twist off the two sides of the ponies in the pack and your little one can put together her (or his of course) pony in matching or opposite colours, pick her mane of all different styles, tail and decorate with stickers. Use additional stickers to create a custom cutie bracelet, and show your love of your favourite MY LITTLE PONY POP characters wherever you go! Fans can choose from PRINCESS TWILIGHT SPARKLE and PRINCESS CADANCE ponies or RARITY and PRINCESS LUNA ponies, each sold separately

My Little Pony

Have you heard of MY LITTLE PONY EQUESTRIA GIRLS? It’s new to me and it’s a cute concept. A magic mirror connects the world of My Little Pony to Canterlot High. The mirror is a portal to a magical new land with high schools instead of castles, and six pony friends become real girls full of fun and fashion. You can buy the dolls individually, the doll with accessories, the doll with their matching pony and best of all the Rainbow Rocks Mane Event Stage with Exclusive Figure

Games
It doesn’t always have to be for the kids! Hasbro has a lot of fun games for both the kids and for us. Let me start with CATCH PHRASE DECADES which is honestly the best game. Whenever I get together with my girlfriends, we always play this game and we are always laughing our asses off – I HIGHLY recommend this game. You pick a category and the person holding the game has to get their team members to figure out the catch phrase on the screen by using words to describe it but not using “sounds like” or not saying any of the words in the catch phrase. Make sure to pass it on before the timer runs out and keep going until it buzzes. If it buzzes in your hands you lose a point ($24.99 – Available August)

Catch Phrase Decades

Remember Jenga? Now there is a new Jenga called JENGA QUAKE. The pieces sit on a moving base that shakes and quakes during game play for added challenge, excitement and a little bit more anxiety 😉  Build the tower as tall as you can without it all falling down on your turn ($24.99 – Available August)

Educational Games for Kids – Enter to WIN #eeBoo

eeBoo always good gamesI noticed that my big guy kept asking me to buy puzzle apps on the iPad and he was actually pretty good at them, so in true Terri fashion, I went to the toy store and walked out with a stack of puzzles. Of course there was a ton of puzzles to choose from, so here’s how I chose:

1. My son’s interests: he loves animals and faces so I looked for puzzles that I knew he would get excited about
2. Size of the puzzle pieces: the bigger the puzzle piece, the easier the puzzle but is a great way to get your little one started. I noticed that most puzzles will show you the size of the puzzle pieces on the box
3. If the puzzle or brand has won any awards: these awards are always proudly displayed on the front of the boxes
4. If there are different kinds of puzzles: just to mix it up a bit, if there are matching games or other fun puzzle like games I will try them

When I was going away with my son a little while back, so I went to the toy store to look for some puzzles and found an Alphabet puzzle by eeboo (which met all my above requirements) and I can’t begin to explain how much he loved it! This puzzle was exactly what he was learning in school, so it was perfect for us! It’s not your traditional puzzle, you match the letter with the picture (A would have the matching piece of an Apple) and including numbers as well.

Putting together the Alphabet Puzzle

It was like the stars aligned because months later I was contacted to test out some of their puzzles (a complete fluke), and I happily took them up on it and got two “non-traditional” puzzles.

eeboo Dominoes and The Lotto Game

First let me say, eeBoo makes so many great games and puzzles it was hard to choose, but I am very happy with my selection as they were perfect for his age. The Dominoes game is a take on the old time classic, but instead of just the regular ol’ dots, you match up the animals. The Lotto Game, is a fun game playing on BINGO and the matching games where each player gets a board, players pick up a tile to see if it matches what is on their board, if it does not match you put it back with the other tiles and hopefully those around you don’t remember where the tile was. Players continue until all 6 spaces on his/her board is full and scream LOTTO when completed

Playing Dominoes

Why I love eeBoo games:
– a lot of their products have won awards which they proudly display on their boxes (Oppenheim Best Toy Awards and other honours)
– the pictures they use are done by  well-known and well-loved children’s book illustrators
– eeBoo’s games encourage literacy, story telling, drawing, imaginative play and basic math
– they proudly display their safety information on their site (not a lot of companies do)
– family run business (I always love to support family run businesses)
– their website is extremely easy to use and you can even shop by age and even by holiday
– the prices are very reasonable
– the instructions on how to play the game are printed on the lid of the box (instead of just a piece of paper which we always lose) and are very easy to follow

Baby Shower Game Ideas

Baby Shower Ideas

It seems like a lot of people are looking for baby shower ideas and today I am welcoming Stephanie from Spaceships and Laser Beams to Babylish Advice who is providing an article on games for a baby shower.

Is there a new baby on the way for someone dear to you? A baby shower is one of life’s sweetest celebrations! If you’ve never been hostess for a shower, you’ll find there’s a big difference between being a guest and creating the party. Is it work? Sure…fun work, though. Is it difficult? No, especially if you pre-plan and organize your to-do list. On my blog, Spaceships and Laser Beams, we specialize in parties for boys (and non-frilly girls!) so I see lots of parties and I have lots of ideas to help with yours.

Baby Shower Game Ideas

After planning your shower theme, decorations and menu, you’ll need to come up with party activities. Watching mama-to-be open gifts and noshing on the treats will be fun, but the most successful gatherings will include conversation starters, too. Here are a few baby shower game ideas to jump-start the girl talk:

  1. Just Like Grandma: Before the shower, gather pictures of mom and dad-to-be and their families (you might want to photo copy the pics, so no precious images are accidentally ruined). Include as many greats as possible as well as siblings, grandparents, cousins, aunts and uncles. In random order, number and mount them on a board. Have guests guess if the relatives belong to mom or dad. The most correct answers win.
  2. Toilet Paper Squares: This game is a good ice breaker, especially when people don’t know each other well. Pass around a roll of toilet paper and have each guest tear off as many sheets as they want. Don’t tell them why! When everyone has their squares, announce they must tell one thing about themselves for each square they have. You might have to give grace to those who take off a lot!
  3. Trash Can Toss: Tuck a bean bag or something similar into three disposable diapers. Blindfolded guests (it’s dark in the middle of the night!) must take turns tossing the diapers into a trash can that is several feet away. The most “baskets” win.
  4. Who Knows Mama the Best: Have a list of features (eyes, mouth, hair, feet, etc.) on a paper, with two columns; one says, “Mom” and the other, “Dad”. Guests must guess whose traits Mama hopes baby will have. New Mama can either give her answers after everyone has made her guesses, or she can fill out a sheet before the party begins. Of course, the most correct answers win.

What game would you love to play at a baby shower?

Scholar’s Choice Review – Enter to Win a $50 Gift Card Giveaway

scholar's choice

Do you remember when you were a kid and walked into a toy store for the first time and found yourself saying “OH WOW”, it was like heaven on earth! I found the inner 2 year old in me coming out when walking into Scholar’s Choice for the first time this past weekend and saying the exact same thing and out loud at that.

I have a tendency to get slightly overwhelmed when I am in toy stores (my secrets out) as there are so many rows and I really like to sift through everything and find the toys and games that are age appropriate for my son, are fun and educational and lastly that encourage him to try new things and work on the skills he is good at.

Toys

There are so many reasons why I love Scholar’s Choice!

#1 When I started walking around the store, one of their staff members came up to me and asked if I needed help. I told her a little bit about my sons likes and dislikes and such and she guided me to the toys and games that she thought would work for him. She was extremely knowledgeable about the products that they have

#2 How I first fell in love with Scholar’s Choice was from their website! It is by far the most helpful website I have found yet (and trust me when I say I do a ton of online shopping – I hope my husband doesn’t read this). It is just so organized (every mother’s dream)! Pick the category you are looking for: Arts & Music Play, Baby & Toddler Toys, Active Play, Pretend Play etc and then from there you can search by either a sub-category, Age, Brand or Learning Skills (BRILLIANT RIGHT!). This makes it sooo easy for parents, grandparents, caregivers, cousins, aunts/uncles and such to find he right gift

#3 They ship!!! Working full time and having little to no time on weekends to get anything done, a toy store that ships gets extra bonus points in my books. You get free shipping over $100 OR there is a $10 flat shipping rate in Canada #4 I love to support Canadian owned family business and they have been in business for over 70 years

GIVEAWAY:
Thanks to our AMAZING friends at Scholar’s Choice, they are giving away a $50 gift card to one of my very lucky readers! Enter below on Rafflecopter, it’s just that easy.
