Try Explaining it with Netflix #StreamTeam

Netlfix

These days I find that I am having one way conversations with my kids, I am talking and nobody is listening. They either are running around the house hyper as can be, fighting with each other over g-d knows what or they have their heads dug into some tech device.

I have found that I can teach my kids a thousand lessons, but truly they couldn’t care less or they just tune me out, but if their favorite Netflix show teaches them the same lesson they somehow find it very interesting and repeat it to me as if I haven’t previously said the same thing!!!!

Looking for some show recommendations?

May Netflix

  1. The Hive – teaching you about sibling rivalry
    2. Veggietales: in the house – teaching about responsibility
    3. Puffin Rock – following the rules
    4. The Adventures of Puss in Boots – teach about self-love
    5. Project MC2 – all about teamwork
    6. Fuller House – Peer Pressure
    7. The Fosters – Actions have Consequences
    8. Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt – Self-Improvement
    9. Glee – Body Image (one of my most favorite shows)

If your kids aren’t listening to you, try tackling some real life issues with some of these Netflix shows and see if that works for you.

Netflix Lego Madness #StreamTeam

Netlfix

Your kids get to a certain age where they discover Lego and then that’s it, all they want is Lego Lego and more Lego which was awesome for me because in some weird way I found building the Lego kits calming and quite addicting if I might say so myself. Then comes the moment you step on a piece and HOLY S*%!T you just wish Lego didn’t exist and then you look over and your little one is building the kit all by themselves and you just feel so proud!

We live for Lego in my house: we build Lego, we play with Lego and watch Lego movies. Thanks to Netflix, we just introduced my oldest guy to Lego Bionicle and it’s not just a Lego kit, but a Lego show! We built the Bionicle over March break and I foresee many Bionicles being built in my future.

The Saturday Night Dream #StreamTeam

Netlfix

Ahhh a cold, wintery Saturday night where everyone is in their pi’s sitting on the couch under a blanket eating popcorn and watching a movie peacefully together and then all of a sudden one of my kids whips a hard plastic toy at my head (no this doesn’t only happen in the movies) and then I am  back to my reality where my boys are fighting over which movie to watch while screaming at me because one of them dropped their popcorn bowl on the floor and somehow that became my problem and I am mean for just being there when it happened! You know what I am talking about don’t you <sigh> !!! I am hopeful though that I can one day live my very own fairytale of a Saturday night hanging with my kids watching a movie on Netflix … I will let you know when that happens.

Celebrating the Holidays with Netflix – Enter to WIN!!! #NetfliXmas #StreamTeam

Netlfix

December is one of my favourite months of the year: Hanukkah, Christmas, Christmas Music (my absolute favourite), lights on neighbourhood houses and trees, Christmas movies and the smell of baking in friends houses. To be quite honest, the only smell of baked goods in my house is the purchased kind or even the pre-made cookie dough kind. I have seen so many amazing cookie recipes via #streamteam bloggers, however my best recipe is going to the grocery store and picking up those pre-made cookie dough rolls, roll them into balls and put them on the cookie sheet for 10-15 minutes creating the perfect, delicious cookies for all my family members to enjoy for their late afternoon movie chill. Netflix has an amazing lineup for the month of December!

December Netflix

1. Casper’s Haunted Christmas

2. Cat in the Hat knows a lot about Christmas

3. Curious George: A Very Monkey Christmas

4. Dreamworks Happy Holidays from Madagascar

Get Cozy with Netflix – #StreamTeam

Netlfix

Officially I can say it feels like Fall! The temperatures have drastically dropped, you have retired your summer wardrobe and brought out all your favourite fleece slippers and most importantly, your cozy sweatpants.

Truly, what is better than getting home from work (or a full day’s worth of errands in some cases), slipping on those comfy sweats (or pj’s in my case) and a big, baggy sweatshirt, popping fresh popcorn with some sprinkled chocolates in it (to satisfy the sweet and salty of course) and sitting down on the couch with your kids to watch a movie or favourite television show. Ok so let’s be real, in my house it doesn’t quite go down like that since I have two very rambunctious boys who don’t sit for a mere second (well at least until 7:00pm), but when they do settle down and want to want to watch television, I truly thank G-d for Netflix. There is always one (or six or seven) shows on there that they both want to watch and then there is peace and quiet that comes over the room … ahhhhh SUCCESS!!!

New on Netflix

Netflix September Shows

1. Lilo & Stitch
2. Nanny McPhee Returns
3. The Muppets
4. Shark Tale

8. Homeward Bound
9. The Princess and the Frog
10. The Lizzie McGuire movie

Oh and don’t forget about yourself, the kids bedtime means it’s your time to kick your feet up and get your Netflix on … I sure did!

Back to School with Netflix #StreamTeam

Netlfix

The weather has spoken and summer is coming to an end. Camp is over, programs for the fall have been set and your child’s back to school backpack is almost ready to go. Hard to believe that this is the end, it’s just too short.

Now it’s time to start hyping up back-to-school and talking to your kids about appropriate classroom behaviour (well at least I do) and what to expect, but that is never an easy conversation especially with the little one’s because they just don’t get it. Sometimes our television friends do the best job explaining and with these new Netflix titles they just might understand the underlying message.

For the Little Guys

Back to School netflix

1. Curious George
2. Zoboomafoo
3. Yo Gabba Gabba! (my big guy has been watching the show for years and it’s amazing how many lessons he has picked up from this show)
4. Walking with Dinosaurs
5. Planet Earth: The Complete Collection
6. The Adventures of Chuck & Friends
7. Animal Mechanicals (teaches kids about working together to get the job done)
8. The Magic School Bus
9. The Cat in the Hat
10. Dinotrux (the new AMAZING series teaching kids to work together using their individual skills and problem solve)
11. Ever After High: Way too Wonderland

Best of luck with Back to School to you the parent (we need the luck … well I know I do) and of course the kiddies

Every Day is an Adventure #StreamTeam

Dragon Race to the Edge

When I think of an adventure, my mind slips into another world thinking of zip lining in Costa Rica or taking a cruise through the Greek Islands or sleeping in a hut over the bright blue water in Bali and then I come back to reality with a toy car being whipped at my head and watching as my two boys start swinging baseball bats at each other (soft one’s don’t worry – this is pretty normal in my house).

The truth is, life is one big adventure … you never know what to expect! They come in all different ways like a simple trip to the grocery store, playing Super-Heroes in the basement or even being woken up at 4:00am to your screaming child scared of the nightmare he just had … all an adventure.

The best adventures are the one’s your kids make up using their crazy imaginations and watching adventure television cartoon shows help with that. Last weekend we saw ‘How to Train your Dragon’ and since seeing it, my son tells me how he wants to have a dragon take him to camp everyday.

Make your own adventures with your kids while sitting on the couch with a bowl of popcorn watching all the great adventure titles on Netflix.

What’s Old is New Again with Netflix #StreamTeam #TBT

Netlfix

Who doesn’t love a good #TBT. Well, what about throwin’ it back to the old school TV shows you used to watch as a kid that are now back thanks to Netflix!

I am throwin’ it back for my husband because after having our first son, he insisted on buying superheroes for him that he could play with when he was older and let me tell you those Superheroes did not leave his side. When he was older, my husband would put on shows like Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends and told him all about when he was a kid waking up Saturday mornings excited to watch this show which we owe to Netflix for having it on. Even shows like Scooby-Doo (which is a current favourite in our house) was one of my husbands old time favourites and my son truly loves that he is watching shows his dad loved to watch when he was a kid.

Nothing is Better than Family! #StreamTeam

Netlfix

Gone are the days of the traditional “nuclear” family and we welcome the “modern” family comprised of two moms or two dads, single moms or single dads, half siblings, step siblings, adopted siblings, aunts, uncles, grandparents … did I miss anything?

My dad has always told me that “family is everything” and he is right! Every day I am reminded of how lucky I am to have the family I have: my husband and two little (crazy) boys, my mom, my dad, my sister, her husband, her two kids, my  brother, his wife, their two kids (our littlest one’s were born one day apart – we were in the hospital together) and that’s just my side of the family. My husband comes from a family of 4 kids and his siblings all have kids. In this large family of mine, each person is uniquely quirky and I love every single one of those quirks.

Want to know how quirky other families are and have a good laugh? Check out this new Netflix series Grace and Frankie staring Jane Fonda, Martin Sheen, Lily Tomlin and Sam Waterston. What a fabulous show, give it a shot you will not be disappointed.
